Daily Schedule

Adult tetras: 2-3 small meals per day.

Each meal: enough food eaten in 30-60 seconds.

Skip one day per week to prevent constipation and clean the gut.

Staple Foods

Quality flake food (Tetra TetraMin Tropical Flakes, Hikari Tropical Crisps) as the base.

Sinking micro pellets for variety and bottom-feeders that share the tank.

Crushed flake for fry and small species (ember tetras).

  • Look for fish meal as first ingredient.
  • Avoid foods heavy in corn or wheat fillers.

Frozen Foods

Bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, mysis shrimp. Feed 2-3 times per week.

Color enhancement and protein boost. Triggers natural breeding behavior.

Live Foods

Live baby brine shrimp (BBS) is best for fry and small adults.

Vinegar eels and microworms are tiny enough for newest fry.

Live blackworms can transmit disease — only from trusted sources.

Color-Enhancing Foods

Foods with astaxanthin, spirulina, and natural pigments boost reds and oranges.

Hikari Color Bits, Omega One Color Flakes, Fluval Bug Bites Tropical have proven track records.
