Philosophy
Mimic a forgotten jungle river bend. Plants overflow boundaries, wood pokes through leaves, mossy rocks in shadow.
No strict rules on composition. Focus is on creating a natural, overgrown feel.
Hardscape
Driftwood (often tall or sprawling) anchors layout. Rocks partially hidden by plants. Sand paths between vegetation optional.
Let wood stick out of water or extend past top — adds natural feel.
Plant Choices
Large Amazon swords, tiger lotus, tall vallisneria, floating plants, dense moss on wood. Plant heavy, let grow wild.
Varieties of crypts and anubias add slow-growth anchors.
Maintenance
Less frequent trimming than Dutch or Iwagumi. Remove only dead leaves and stems that block flow.
Let plants fall and rise naturally. Every few months, deep thin-out to prevent complete tank overtake.
