Pure Endler (N-Class)
Smaller than guppies (males 0.75-1 inch, females 1.25 inches). Bright, jewel-tone colors with black and orange dominant. No "tail patterns" — colors are body-focused.
Designated "N-class" by the International Endlers Association — pure wild-caught lineage from Laguna de Patos in Venezuela.
Hybrid (K-Class)
Larger than pure endlers — closer to guppy size (1.25-1.5 inches). Color patterns include guppy-style tail patterns.
Designated "K-class" — known to have guppy DNA in their lineage. The vast majority of "endlers" in pet stores are K-class hybrids.
- ✦Pure endlers cost $10-30 each from breeders.
- ✦Pet store endlers are usually $3-5 hybrids.
Why Hybridization Matters
Endlers and guppies interbreed freely and produce fertile offspring. Once mixed, the genetic line cannot be separated.
Conservation breeders work hard to maintain pure N-class lines. If you keep both species, separate them entirely or accept hybrid offspring.
Are Hybrids Bad?
No. Hybrids are colorful, hardy, and fun. They are just not "pure endlers." If you want pure endlers, buy from a reputable breeder with documented N-class lineage. If you just want pretty fish, hybrids are perfect.
