Tub Size and Material
Minimum 200L tub per 2 adult goldfish. Black plastic, dark blue, or dark grey shows colors best and retains heat evenly.
Avoid clear or white tubs — algae blooms become unmanageable in direct tropical sun.
Shade Is Non-Negotiable
Cambodia's dry season sun can push tub water to 35°C+ which kills goldfish within hours. Install 70% shade cloth or position under a tree.
Morning sun (before 10am) is OK and promotes color. Afternoon sun must be blocked.
Filtration Options
External pond filter with UV sterilizer works best. Sponge filter + air pump is the budget option but needs weekly cleaning.
Water lettuce and water hyacinth provide shade, biological filtration, and fry hiding spots.
Mosquito and Predator Control
Goldfish eat mosquito larvae but cannot reach surface eggs in heavy vegetation. Remove floating plant mats weekly.
Cover tub with plastic mesh at night to block frogs, snakes, and birds. Stray cats will fish in unprotected tubs.
