Sex Identification
Males develop large facial bristles by 9-12 months age.
Females have minimal bristles — small bumps only.
For breeding, 2-3 females per male recommended.
Cave Setup
PVC pipe cap or specialized pleco cave — small tunnel just big enough for male.
Place cave in shaded area. Male claims it as territory.
Spawning
Male lures female to cave. Female deposits 30-100 eggs inside.
Male alone guards eggs. Female leaves and is run off.
Eggs hatch in 5-10 days. Fry stay in cave for 1-2 more weeks before emerging.
Fry Care
Fry can stay in main tank — bristlenose fry hide in plants and crevices.
Diet: algae wafers, blanched zucchini, baby brine shrimp.
- ✦Multiple caves prevent territory disputes if multiple males
- ✦Strong filter currents reduce fry survival
- ✦Tank-bred bristlenose are color variants — albino, lemon, blue, calico
