Feeding Bettas Frozen Foods — A Complete Guide

Dry pellets alone cause constipation and dull color. Frozen foods 2-3 times per week transform betta health.

Top Frozen Foods

Bloodworms: high protein, loved by bettas, excellent for color. Feed 2x per week.

Brine shrimp: natural laxative (high fiber), good for constipated fish. Feed 1-2x per week.

Daphnia: water flea, best for digestive health. Feed weekly.

Mysis shrimp: larger protein, for adult bettas only. Monthly treat.

Thawing Method

Never feed frozen cubes directly — sudden cold shocks the fish. Place a cube in a small dish with tank water for 2-3 minutes.

Drain excess water before feeding to avoid cloudy tank water.

Portion Control

Bettas eat until they burst. Feed only what fits in 2-3 bloodworms or equivalent.

Excess uneaten food fouls water quickly. Remove leftovers with a pipette.

Rotation Schedule

Mon/Thu: pellets. Tue/Fri: frozen bloodworms. Wed/Sat: pellets. Sun: fast day.

Variety prevents deficiencies and keeps the fish interested in food.
