Indian Almond Leaves (IAL)
Most popular. Releases tannins that acidify water slightly and have antibacterial properties.
Great for bettas, discus, and shrimp. Color water amber.
Magnolia Leaves
Slow to decompose (6-12 months). Provide long-lasting structure in tanks.
Lower tannin release than almond — good for water that shouldn't be heavily stained.
Beech Leaves
European beech leaves — common in American and European biotopes. Light brown.
Medium decomposition rate. Release small amounts of tannins.
Preparation and Use
Source pesticide-free leaves. Rinse, boil 5 minutes (kills pests), then dry or use immediately.
Use 1 leaf per 20-30L water. Replace when fully decomposed (2-6 months).
